Trekking in Goecha La Trek

Bird Watching In Kewzing

Like the flora of the state, the fauna is equally rich and splendid. Sikkim is celebrated as the birding paradise and accommodates more than 200 types of bird species. Puff-throated Babbler, Fire-tailed Myzornis, Streaked Spiderhunter and  Sultan Tit are some of the commonly found bird species in the state. Scarlet Finch, Scaly Laughingthrush, Red Faced Liochichla, Red Faced Liochichla are some exotic bird species.

Yak Ride Near Tsomgo Lake

Located at the height of 12400 ft this lake is a very eco-friendly place. The lake is known for its changing appearances as it becomes a snow-ridden plain during winters and during spring the water sets up a tranquil beauty. The yak ride here is pretty awesome that offers sightseeing and an amazing experience.

Places to see in Sikkim:

Gangtok

Gangtok is the capital city of Sikkim and is nestled in the eastern Himalayas. It has everything to admire about it from lush green forests to scenic beauty to rippling rivers and serene solace. You can enjoy the cable car ride while you are in Gangtok.

Yuksom

This is the origin place of many enthralling treks of Sikkim including the treks to Kanchenjunga. It is in the western part, this was the former capital of the state. It is also celebrated as the “Meeting Place of Three Lamas”.

Nathula Pass

It is one of the highest motorable pass in the world the Nathula pass is located at a height of 4310 km above the sea level. An Indian has to seek permission from the tourism department before visiting this pass.

Lachung

If you are a fan of snow then this is the right place for you. The untouched and surreal beauty of the snow-capped place makes it a must visit place on your list. The Lachung Chu River is an integral part of its paramount beauty.

Rumtek Monastery

One of the oldest and the largest monasteries in Sikkim, Rumtek Monastery is a must visit place to admire the Buddhist culture and religion. It is also known as Dharma Chakra Center and is an exemplary testimony of Buddhist architecture.

Do-Drul Chorten

Built in the year 1945 this is the largest stupas in Sikkim. It was built under the guidance of Truslshi Rimpoche and has 108 Mani Lhakor prayers laced on its prayer wheels.

Food in Sikkim

Welcome to the land of delicious food and cuisines. Sikkim has a rich culture and the effect of it can be seen in its local delicacies. You can enjoy the famous Bhutia Momos here and relish the originality of the recipe. Thukpa, Phagshapa, Sael Roti,  Niguru with Churpi are some other popular and local delicacies. The common diet of Sikkimese consists of Dal –Chawal, beef or chicken, noodles, and veggies.

Shopping in Sikkim

You can shop many things for your home from Sikkim. It can be a handmade craft, the famous Thangkas paintings, Choksee tables made of wood or traditional Tibetan and Sikkimese garments.

The Lepcha weaved bags are also loved by the tourists and the yak’s cheese is something to try on.

How to reach Sikkim:

By Bus – The state owns a well-connected road network. The national Highway 31A and National Highway 31 connects Gangtok to Siliguri. The Sikkim National Transport runs many buses to and fro Sikkim.

By Taxi – There are many agencies and private run firms that offer you taxi services in Sikkim. You can easily connect to Siliguri through taxies in the state.

By Train – Sikkim does not own a very good rail network and you might have to fight for a train travel. Though, the New Sikkim Railway Project has been launched to make the connectivity better.

By Air – Because of the rough terrain that the place owns, Sikkim does not have an operational airport as of now. The nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport located at a distance of 124 Kilometer in Siliguri, West Bengal.
